Main Task - Result

For my main task, I had to create an opening film sequence to a fiction film.
I decided to have the film opening be a Thriller/Action styled genre. The reason for this choice is because I thought I would be able to portray this particular genre in the right way, since I have a genuine interest to unique styled thriller films, such as the latest hit 'Inception' - which had given me the inspiration to take a risk in making a film opening with a 'twist'.
The storyline of my film opening is to do with assassination. The main character has been set out on a task to assassinate a person, but ends up being in the result of that persons own revenge.
The twist to this is that this particular character (who has been assassinated) has an individual difference - being able to to go back in time and redo what may have already been done.
So when the repeated scene, of him having his back towards the person and suddenly attacking as if he knew what was going to happen, it should give away to the viewer that there is something different about this character and is like no other.

  1. Good Points:
The sound at the start was interesting. It was in time with the zooming in and out effect and it gave me the idea as if its like a flashback or some kind of conspiracy of what could happen? Especially towards the end where it changes contrast to black and white which seems more like a flashback. Also the blur of the light is a good effect.
Cleverly the timing of the first beat of music was in time with the 'stomp' of the actors foot.
There was good and creative use of video after effects definately makes the opening more interesting.
The titles were simple and effective.
You have used a good range of shots and angles to create the idea of the thriller.

    Critisms:
The sound when the actor was being did not really match the noise that you would expect as it sounded more like a punch from a fist, however it was still effective.

And the opening overall was very effective and I do think that it would make an interesting film.

  2. As the viewer i was gripped instantly on this opening scene. The reason for this being is that the use of zoom makes you feel as if you are being pulled into the scene itself, this is a very effective way to grab the viewers attention. I really like the way that it starts of really busy and at a very fast pace and then stops all together and the screen goes black, this leaves me (the viewer) wondering what is going to happen next. Also the use of lighting is used very well to create a weird and almost uncomfortable feeling, as it gets brighter and then darker again. The music used is interesting and very effective, as this is what creates the mood and tension throughout. It also gives you the impression that the person in the film is on some sort of mission with a very fast beat throughout.
The only criticism i can give is that i got quite confused towards the end as i was given the impression that they went back in time, however i feel that this could have been made more clear to the viewer. Also maybe the music to the lead up of the person getting punched could have been louder and more intense to create more of a scary feel.
However all in all i feel that this was a really good opening scene and was very effective at grabbing the viewers attention!

  3. I really like how you took a risk with your video, i makes it different to any normal films and instantly catches the viewers attention. I personally love some of the effects you used like the light crawling down the wall. The use of sound has been very well executed.

I must say i did struggle a little to understand what was going on, but as it is only the opening it makes me want to carry on watching to see the story and meaning behind the opening if that makes sense. If you were to do it again you may want to think about how dark the shots are but you did get a lot of shot variation which made your opening sequence successful

    well done :)

  4. I think this opening sequence was very unique to many other opening sequences I have viewed. It is very dark and mysterious with a great twist which really catches my attention because it is the sort of genre I enjoy.
I really enjoyed the edits you have made the beginning where it goes blank and completely silent then we see a negative edit shot of someone's foot walking and how it fits with the music. i also like how you did the edit with the brick wall the light going down it and then it ends as we come down to see the person walking.
The music fits well with the genre you were aiming at not too eerie but it stills gives a eerie feel.

the only criticism i have is i think the sound effect of the person being hit didn't match as it sounded like it had come from a karate film.

other than that i really think this was different and enjoyed it.

  5. I loved the music that went with this opening, as it created a cool tension, and as the footage was taken at night it gave it that spooky essence that something was going to happen.
I found the effects you used very creative as they made the normal zoom of going into a light really interesting.
The actors did their job very well and carried out their characters very professionally.
The camera angles you used were also very creative and the P.O.V shot of the text made me feel included.
The only slight criticism is that I didn't really understand, but that is sort of a good thing as some films can draw you into that so that it makes you want to watch it to find out what was going on.
other than that i would watch this film as it seems interesting from what i've seen :)

  6. Hey Aimee hello I am here to say...
I really like your opening sequence. I thought the shots you used where very arty and different. I also like the way that you used the effects and also the light it gave the opening a more futuristic feel. Your music also complimented the piece by building tension and by adding more to the futuristic mood. A couple of criticisms are that:
Some of the shots are quite dark and you could use lighting to improve these.
Also the plot isn't really explained in the opening and left me a little bit confused.
I really like the opening though well done aimee :D

    Thats all...

  7. I Loved The use of lighting. i thought it was very creative and well put together. i also thought that the background music went well, in good timing, with the film and the steps of the actor. i loved the fact that the actor's hood was up because, as an actor it gave me hint of Suspicion.

Areas i thought aimee could improve upon was the lighting because i couldnt quite see the actor or parts of the film. Also Without explanation i wouldnt be able to understand the middele part fo the film as there were many people shooting

    But overall Well Done! :)

  8. The beginning really sets the mood for the whole sequence and makes you known to the fact that you are about to see something which is interesting and tests you (which is good)
after the man was killed and the whole film kind of rewinded i really liked that as that twist kept you on the edge of your seat waiting for more
I also liked the effects on some of the clips, like when the light seems to be climbing down the wall. It adds to the tension and the mystery of the film.
the twist was a bit confusing the first time but after you explained it it was a really clever twist which left you wanting more

    Very Good!

  9. I like this because it was different from anything else horror/action, the music went well as it was loud and kept the audience alert. I like the way the music died down and it went onto heartbeats. The effects were used really well. Very good :-)!

  10. I love the effects you've used! I think the music is really clever and really suits your footage. I like the bit where the camera twists round it keeps you wanting to watch it. Tension is built throughout the whole peice. I like how you rewind it and then show another ending to it, it really keeps the audience watching. Only cristism is that it was quite dark in some of your shots and hard to see but thats it :)
